Assignment #7

I am responding to assignment #7 on my teachers blog Miss Pollock. I have been checking out the museum of canadian civilizsation website.

a) Which category of Canadian Personalities interested you the most? Did you like the "we inspired", "we founded", "we fought", "we built" or "we governed" section the best? Why?

The category that interested me the most was the "we governed" section because it shows people who were important to canadian politics. You can learn about from this section about prime ministers, premiers and governor generals. It is very informative.

b) Which personality interested you the most? Why? Find an image of him or her to embed (add to the body of your post and write, in your own words, a short description of what he or she did and why he or she is your favourite. If you get information from any source, you must credit it by creating a link to it (that includes information from the site that I've asked you to look at).

The reason I chose Sir John A. Mcdonald was that he is important to Canadian history because he was the first Prime Minister of Canada. He wrote the Canadian constitution and also negotiated trade agreements with the United States.

c) In your post, suggest three more influential Canadian personalities that could be added to this site. Why did you choose these people? Which categories would they fit into? Link to information about each of them.

McTavish, Simon (1750-1804) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Famous_Canadians

Redpath, John (1796-1869) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Famous_Canadians

Terry Fox http://www.terryfoxrun.org/english/about%20terry%20fox/default.asp?s=1

I chose Simon McTavish because he was a fur trader and the group I think he should go into is the "we fought group" because he was a fur trader so he probably went through a lot of battles to trade furs.

I chose John Redpath because he was a pioneer and the group I think he should go in is the "we built" group because he probably built a lot of tee pees.

I chose Terry Fox because he was an inspiration to all canadian's to fight cancer so I am going to put him in the "we inspired" group.

d.) Which History-Maker did you have the most in common with? Were you able to figure it out from the clues given? What do you share with that person? What are some things that are different between you and that person?

I had the most in common with James Naismith. I guessed who it was from the three choices given. My guess was correct. One of the things I have in common with James Naismith is that I play the sport that he invented which is basketball. Mr. Naismith's favourite sport was lacrosse but my favourite sport is hockey.

e.) One hundred years from now, (in 2109!) imagine that students are learning about Canadian History Makers and they discover you. What will you be remembered for? How were you a Canadian History Maker? You are using your imagination, so think about some things that you would like to accomplish in your life and imagine that you have all the accomplishments of your life to look back on. Write a short profile of yourself, imagining the contributions you have made to the future of Canada. (Write this as though you've lived your whole life. You may have been a phenomenal athlete, the first black Prime Minister, cured cancer...use your imagination!)

Adam O'Brien was born in 1996 and lived to 2080. He lived in the capital of Canada: Ottawa, Ontario. Adam grew up playing and watching hockey. He loved the game. His favourite position was goalie. He started out playing goalie for a community ball hockey league. He went on to be one of the best goalies that league ever saw. He also played ice hockey in the minor leagues and broke all kinds of records as goalie. He stop the most shots in a single game: 67 shots. He had a shutout streak of 10 games. Adam then went on to play in the NHL where he became known as one of the best goalie's of all time. He broke Martin Brodeur's shutout record with 120 shutouts over a 14 year career. He earned the nickname "The Robinator". Adam was also very generous within his community. He gave to many children's charities and donated a lot of his time to the Boys and Girls Club and to CHEO. Adam was honoured by being nominated into the Hockey Hall of Fame. Adam dedicated his life to hockey and will always be remembered for his contribution to the game.

Assignment #6

Mary Ann Shadd started the first integrated school in Canada and was the first female newspaper editor. She then went on and became the first black lawyer in North America." Her most enduring legacy remains that of integration of free men and women who believe that the foundation of a community should be family and friends, not race or colour." quoted by whitepinepictures.com .

She was born in 1823 in Wilmington, Delaware. She moved to Upper Canada in 1851 and became a teacher and an activist in the abolitionist movement. Canada abolished slavery in 1834 and Shadd believed that black people were ready for integration. Shadd set up her own private school which was open to all races. She believed that everyone had the right to education and succeed to their full potential. These were the keys to equality. Mary Ann Shadd's model of tolerance paved the way for integration.

Assignment #4

one person's blog that i thought was very good was my friend dillon i thought that his was full of detail. Here is a sample from his blog " In 2109, I think that the world will be at a near end. Governments will have collapsed and poverty would be outstanding."

Another person's blog who I thought was very descriptive was Sam's blog becasue she thinks more history will be made like a black priminister. Here is a sample " I think that in the year 2109 we will have had a black prime minister and also a girl prime minister in Canada. U.S.A will have had a girl presedent that did a great job and everyone thought see did a great job."

The last person who I looked at was Colton he thinks there will be new technology and we will see a change in our stock market. Here is a sample " In 2109 i believe there will be all new technology, like talking robot butlers, rocket cars, floating cities, and who knows, mabye we will be trading stocks with martians! "

Assignment #3 2109

In this assignment I will be talking about what it will be like in a hundred years. I like what Christopher Moore said "haven't a clue, not a clue." that's what everybody thinks because nobody knows what it will be like in the future, but I think in the future it will be different because people will only use solar power, and a lot of countries in the Caribbean will be wiped out from getting hit by to many hurricanes.
